A Beautiful Nature Preserve
Nature is calling from the hills of West Rock Park in the West Rock neighborhood of New Haven. You might not expect a beautiful nature perserve in the heart of a bustling New England city, but New Haven will surprise you sometimes.
West Rock Ridge State Park is the centerpiece for this New Haven neighborhood and provides spectacular views of the city and on clear days you can view the sun glistening off of Long Island Sound. The park is home to the West Rock Nature Center which offers programs on local ecology, outdoor skills workshops and much more. On-site are a visitor’s center and classroom facilities.
The West Rock neighborhood is also home to Southern Connecticut State University, part of the public university system in the Nutmeg State.
One of the most unique organizations in West Rock is Common Ground, a combination high school, summer program, urban farm and environmental education center where students and members of the community come together to learn and grow.
